o2 we're better connected

o2 we're better connected acvert, we're there is a running sequence of people interacting with each other as the camara moves across a town scape, things like wispering the passing of flowers etc make up the "connection" between two people/objects. again this ad considering the realistic nature of the und sequence of the o2 bubbles the rest of the advert is less realistic with the adition of animals such as bears communicating with each other and dogs sitting on roof topes howling. however the idea of kissing someone, passing them a flower, dogs communicating are more realistic things that happen day to day but a disrupted (in my opinion) by the adition of these cmputer generated charcters.

alfa advert

this is a new advert for the alfa mito, i thought it would be a perfect example of using vector graphics in a comercial and it also gives me some simple ideas for my sting.

vector development

this is some of my intial development work. i started designing my vectors to be very smplistic and felt they didn't look to great so i decided to develop the design to be more realistic an look alot like the actual product using iconic features and also i tried to resemble the colours of the actual product as well by using spot colours.

vector graphics for animation

this is the final vectors that i have produced for my animation of the top ten worst gifts,
these are the vectors that represent the worst gifts. i'm really happy with how the images have come out i am very keen to get sharp defined edges on my work and i think i have been able to do this by creating these pieces in illustrator.

test piece 11

this piece uses the move tool making images slide and rotate into spaces whereas with the previous design they just rotate on anchor points.

test piece 10

conversly to the previous post i actually like this anmation as once all the images have been added they will fill the screen and then can close back in then disperse again filling the space with the worst gifts.

test piece 9

i prefere this idea as each layer fills the screen and then moves out of shot straght away and means the animation is quicker flowing, higher pace.

test piece 8

i liked the test piece i'd done previously so i wanted to see what else i could do interms of animating and moving the images in defferent and intersting ways.

test piece 7

inspiration taken from ipod nano advert i like how each of images are moving out of shot and revealing the next image. makes the movement of each layer more visual interesting for the viewer.

test piece 6

i had the idea that moving through the space could have additional movements for example like the can of 02 and this could slide out then continue moving through the space.

test piece5

this test piece is steming from the idea that i could make the viewer feel like they are moving through the gifts and the camara angles can be edited to make it feel like the viewer is moving through a 3d space.

test piece 4

just a simple animation with set frames to move through each image easily and simply. i actually like the feel of this but it could have additional type over the top and some times pieces could flick/ fold out of screen.

test piece 3

third test to see how i could resemble the flick book concept created on the mcdonalds advert. some parts could be animated with a few more frames to make it more of a better flowing motion. IDEA: could use a stock frame animation of a flick book and edit this into it!

test piece 2

second test piece to see how i can layer in the other objects to create a continuous animation.

test piece 1

first test piece to see how the image on a background looks, main inspiration for this idea is the new mcdonalds pound saver menu and ipod nano ads.

ipod nano chromatic

i particularily like the new bright colours of the new nano and would like to work with this kind of colour pallette to frame each of my vectors, also i like how the frame is static and the objects (ipods) are animating in 3d motion, i could sudjest this kind of movement with my own illustrations.

ipod nano hide/reveal

i like how this advert has used a variety of layerd videos to sudgest that when one nano is removed anouther 1 appears. in terms os my own practise, due to the static nature of my design i could use a similar style of animation where the image is static and then it is moved of the frame and anouther one is revealed.

mcdonalds, pound saver ad

this is one of the most recent adverts produced by mcdonalds, i think the use of digitaly manufactured imagery and type works really well and i especially like the idea of the flip book with the contents of the pound saver menu and the things you can buy with you change, wich has been taken very light haertedly which i am interested in making my design more like.

claw, battery grab

test piece for my top ten animation i'm looking at how i can animate the claw to move an object and drop it. it looks quite good as the objects work well at interacting with each other. the claw actions are only made up of 4 individual vectors. so could add more to improve the fluidity of the design.

form t-shirt vectors

these t-shirt designs have been produced as part of an extra buisness (uniform) to run along side the graphic design buisness that is known as form. i want to focus on the design of the vector on the actual t-shirt this is a style that i have been really interested in and has appealed to me for a long time. in particular i like the boldness of colour and thickness of the lines used to creat the design. it really interests me especially in my own practice how i can take a very simple vector and edit it to look alot more realistic.

guilherme marconi reclaim lunch hour blk and white

I have picked out some work I have looked at before by Guilherme Marconi in contrast to the previous design I like the pure use of black and white. Also there is a larger variety (this is what it seems to look like) of items in size and the actual range in different objects.

guilherme reclaim lunch hour

I have picked out some work I have looked at before by Guilherme Marconi as I really like the style of his animations and I am eager to design some of my own to try and attempt to animate. I really like the crispness of the edges and the availability of colours to work with in solid and shaded formats. i think that this style of illustration would be really suitable to the content of my research and i could gets some really intesting design from this to animate in my e4 style sting.

new brief..

i have received a new brief that is based on the top ten of my reseach best and worst. the idea is that i produce a 30-50 second animation that is in the style of a e4 sting i can use the colours and styles used by e4 if i wish but i don't have to if i want. the next set of posts will be to do with the research and development for this brief consisting of videos pictures and my own personal work.

best worst gift research : facebook group

to get more of a public response to this brief i set up a face book group to get people to post up what they thought was the best worst gift that they had received. and the results where quite interesting as there was a variety of both female and male inputs giving me a wider set of results to work with. with this information I'm planning on collecting more of it and hopefully when i receive the next part of the brief there will be a lot of possibility's with this information i have gathered.

The Nissan GT-R is the fastest car I have ever driven, and that's including a Lotus Super 7, a Corvette, and a Porsche Turbo. It's like driving a video game -- so powerful that you constantly spin the tires with its super acceleration, even though it has all-wheel drive. With very specific Japanese styling and a great-looking rear end, the youngsters will love it. At around eighty grand with a few features, it's a bargain. (starting at $76,840, gtrnissan.com)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150

There are a bunch of great new point-and-shoot cameras available for gifting this year, depending on your specific needs: The 14.7-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 is my favorite shirt-pocketable camera, largely because of its sharp Leica lens. ($400, panasonic.com)

Sony Bravia XBR8-Series HDTV

The technical specs on Sony's top-of-the-line Bravia HDTV look like the U.S. tax code. For the geeks out there, this means these models have Triluminos three-color LED backlight technology, ACE Pro technology, Bravia Engine 2 PRO, x.v.Color compatibility, and Motionflow 120Hz frame-rate technology. What does this mean? They look great. ($2,999.99 for the 46-inch, $6,999.99 for the 55-inch, sonystyle.com)

just a few ideas of gifts that i have found that are alot better than the worst gifts ever (previously posted)

i like the shapes and potential to create little illustrations of these objects.

a small collection of my research that consists of some pretty terible gifts taken predominantly from esquire, i really like the comments "what it says" as they are realy quite humorous within the context.

i'm liking this idea as there is alot of visual otential in bothe the gift itself and the typeographical posibilitys of "what it says"

new idea!!!

i have felt that there is a lot of animation work out on you tube that works with kinetic type and more specifically with song lyrics and such likes. there for i decided to check out other avenues.
due to the period of the year Christmas i have chosen to research the best and worst gifts you can receive after getting some pretty good gifts and hearing about some pretty terrible ones as well.

blink kinetic type

this animation for all the small things is very very basic and is not to the same standard as the previous kinetic type piece, due to it's simplicity and there is not alot of interesting ways in which the words work together.

kinetic type

online song blink, kinetic type this animation has some really cool sections to it i especially am impressed with the speed and how the music and type work very well and is timed perectly, the use of colour is effective as it shows and identify different singers voices. also the piece uses imagery adding another dimention to the piece, filling in for guitar/ drum solo's.

white stripes kenetic type

white stripes kinetic type, with image. what i particularily like about this animation is the combination of working with type and image, the imagery has been used to represent words such as girl loves world, with and image of a girl heart and world, this would be something i would like to attempt during the development stage to see what i could achive. the only down fall is the quality of the video i will need to make sure i check save my work contiuously and make sure it's saved as a good quality format.

amy winehouse, kinetic type

amy winehouse rehab, the interesting thing with this video how lines such as go go go just use one piece of text but use effects such as zoom and spin to sujest go go go. what i find a bit iritating is the continuous change in font style, when there is no real change in how the song is sang.

kanye west kinetic type

kanye west stronger, this short animation is good as i like how the shot twists and spins for viewers to read the next word in the song, also how words such as upare animated adding an arrow suggesting up, and how the work is using all three axis (y,x,z)

daft punk kinetic type

daft punk harder better faster stronger. i particularily like this animation as it's so simple but so so effective and interesting, the use of colour and due to the song having only the words that drop at the start is lucky but by using flashing colour on the type to signify that word being sung is very effective, speep and timing also spot on.

estelle, kinetic type

kanye west/ estelle american boy, this piece starts of really well as the type is moving both to the speed of the singing but also to the backing beat however as the animation moves on i feel that some bits get too distorted and aen't very clear. but there are some nice uses of imagery also within the animation which are minimal but effective.

daft punk,kinetic type2

daft punk... ilike how this image uses the type as a static prearanged format but use the viwer to move to each lyric on the composition, anouther very intersting and differnet kinetic type piece.

daft punk, kinetic type3

daft punk, kinetic type4

daft punk, bfs, this animation is really good, even tho there is a continuous change in the type style which could be focused in on one to three fonts, but other than this how the words animate to the music i really clever especially when words come up and letters move to represent the distorments on the singing, also the filing by the robots works very well.

the fray kinetic type

the fray how to save a life. this animation is very simple compared to the others i've looked at however it's just done really well interms of the use of colour to signify the emotion of a word, also the movemnet around the type change case sizes throughout alos like how they have stuck to just one type face but by changing font size weight makes it so much more intersting and more of a completed piece than the ones using 10 million different font styles.

system of the down kinetic type

system of the down, chop suey i like how the type is done so that it fits with how the song is sung stretching the in me part as it's sung slowly and the note is held for longer.

best and worst brief

this brief is set as a research brief to find the best and worst of a certain catogorie chosen by myself. initialy after the silent movie brief, where i had to use 3 words and animate them silently in 10 seconds. i found my self very interested in the kinetic type work i have previously found on you tube. so i may explore ideas on the bases of working with song lyrics or movie captions.

final animation for silent movie

final cut silent movie i am happy with the result considering the time constraints and that i was just getting used to a new piece of softwear but in future i would like to develope my skills to use after affects to better and more profesional results. in the case of this animation i'm happy as all the words demonstraight there meaning but if i had more time and probably was more confident with the softwear the finshed video would be of a higher quality and probably be animated in a totaly different manor.

fold test piece

test piece to see try out ways of working with type on a different plaine in this case i wanted the word fold to fold in to it self, i had to use to seperate illustrator files both with one part of the word then using the rotaion settings i made imove and fold together.

open and pop test piece

simple test working with pop and open. i wanted to test the oportunitys with working with blocks and moving them to reveal words and sudgest what words mean i feel this is a very basic representation of this but it's a better improvement from the intial animation tests.

pop and open test piece 1

this test piece was used to see how i could make the animation of the word po and the word open so that they worked together and the change over between the two worked as you can see it could do with some work as the pop just disaperes and the change over isn't to a good stanard at all.

pop test piece 2

the second test this time i designed a set of frames 42 to be exact that are shown straight after one anouther to create a stock frame style animation that the word pop gradualy grows and gets bigger.

pop test piece 1

this is and intial test for my silent movie, i'm trying to get to terms with the programe after efects so this is very simple at the moment.

scrubs kinetic type

scrubs kinetic type, the particular bit of this animation i like is when the suv is described as having surround sound and the type is displayed in a 3d animation spining to show the next piece of text which is kind of my idea that is attempting to fold that word fold.

there will be blood typeography

typeography based animation for ther will be blood. initialy the type face used is symbolic of the film itself, however the colours used seem a little out of sorts. however i really like how the milkshake sequence has been put together and how the type is sucked away. anouther bit that i'm not sure about is the use of different type faces as i find that there could have been a better choice as is does'nt quite fit together as much as it could have using other type faces

fight club kinetic type 2

another kinetic type fight club scene but this time there is a shaky shot of a metal wall/ machine as the background and the type is cleverly animated over the top of this. realting to my silent movie brief the doing words such as long are animated to display this in the animation for instance the word long is stretched while the rest of the sentance is being said and the line " only guys to a fight" 2x the word guys are animated in to ht each other. these are simple representations of what i need to be thinking about for my own type based animation.

fight club kinetic type

animation using kenetic type to represent a scene in fight club. what i like about this animation is that it is a really edgey scene in the film and the type style is very rough and broken. alomng with this the shaky movement of the frame ads to this effect also i particularily like the adition of imagery which ads more to the video in terms of the viwer getting more of a visual representation of whats going on in the scene from the combination of type and image. this is a concept i would realy like to persue through my progress and development in animation.

oceans 11

taken from oceans eleven this piece of kinetic type is different to other pieces i have researched as it doesn't display every single word that is said. it uses the motion of the frame options and images such as trip lasers over the top of the word elevator. linking to my own practice i want to see what i can produce when combining both an image with the type itself.

lock, stock and two smoking barrels, silent movie research

caption of speach taken from snatch done in kinetic typography. this animation as great speed and maitains a good link with the speach wich is good for this kind of animation. particularily i most like the different plains this animation works on using x, y and z plains to project the type, and the use of soley type to simulate such things as "i will kill you" using an explination mark.
